Using community spaces and reclaimed props and costumes, the making of Fight, Flight, Free illustrates the spirit of local creatives determined to support low-to-no budget film making.

The Making of Baro de Viver

The Missing City Stars is a small group of documentary film makers providing workshops for minority groups in Barcelona. With the support of a professional film crew to shoot their own documentary, they highlight the different cultures living together in the local community.

This film looks behind the scenes of the project, led by director Oriol Porta, in Baro de Viver; an isolated neighbourhood in the Sant Andreu district of Barcelona.

Located in a northern industrial zone of Barcelona, the Bon Pastor neighbourhood is largely populated by Roma, and the community is steeped in Romani traditions. Working with director Albert Bougleux and The Missing City Stars, one Bon Pastor teenager questions the practice of Roma girls dropping out of school by age 13.

Gabriel

Gabriel

Classically trained in Chilean music schools and politically active during the Perón era, Gabriel Brncic was exiled in 1974 to Barcelona where he joined the Phonos Lab. Gabriel uses archive footage to illustrate the emotive account of Brncic’s life, from the harrowing distress of extradition to the peace he found in Barcelona. The film is accompanied by Gabriel’s own composition.

Clio and Claudia

Clio and Claudia

When Clio and Claudia started the project, Horta de Belloch was a derelict farmhouse in the Catalonian countryside. After months of hard work implementing the principals of permaculture, Clio and Claudia transformed the abandoned land into a working farm. They now produce enough vegetables, eggs and bread to feed themselves and to sell locally.
